Dining Accessories - Table LinensSetting the table in a nice fashion makes a dining area or kitchen table look more inviting when setting down to dinner. A table should have at least 4 place settings (i.e.: placemats and napkins, plates and flatware not necessary) on an average table and 2 on a cafe or breakfast bar. Remember table settings are just as decorative as wall decor or any other home decor, also just as important especially when it come to protecting the table.
How to design different rooms: Designing Individual Rooms In a Home. The Dining Room TableThe dominate piece of furniture in the dining room of course is the table. Depending on the shape or size of your dining room a round, oblong table, or square may be the more desirable functional table. Although if you room is large a nice rectangle table will work. A round dining table can go perfectly with an oblong dining room accompanied by an oblong or large oval rug. In your dining room repetition of color throughout can help bring your decor together, matching drapes, coordinating table linens, seat cushions, upholstery, and more make your color palate complete throughout your room. Don't forget the final touches of table runners across the buffet and table with flower centerpieces. The Dining Room and How It Should BeThe dining room offers a nice departure from the decor in the rest of your home. The decoration palate to start off is to have a dominate color for the room, keep in mind that it would need to be cheerful and bright for a happy room. Although, the color for your dining room shouldn't be too bright. If the dining room has large windows and is on the sunny side of the house you may let one of the colors dominate such as white, blues, cream, greens, violets, or grays. These colors are cooling colors. If the dining room is located on the dark side without sun you will want to use bright warming colors like yellows, warm tans, gold's, orange, russets, and reds. Don't use large patterned wall papers, this can be distracting while eating. Fabrics and tapestries are suitable for wall coverings in the dining room. If you have low ceilings the room should not be of a dark drab color, this will make the room appear smaller and the ceiling lower. When choosing the wallpaper choose wisely as some patterns often improve badly portioned rooms with an optical illusion. When choosing a rug for the dinning room a large harmonizing one fitting in with your color scheme and larger that your table with chair settings is appropriate. Make sure to find one that can stand wear and tear since underneath a dining table can have a lot of traffic and accidental food spills. Lighting Your Dining RoomThe ideal lightings for dining rooms are side lights and sconces. Dining-room drop lights or domes are too bright on the eyes of those who dine, and are unbecoming for a formal dining room. Chandeliers with dimming controls help set the mood for different dining experiences and for different times of day. Wall mounts and sconces are far pleasanter to the eyes and look better when dining. Adding candles on a side buffet elegantly adds a softer relaxing atmosphere to your dining experience. |
